Alder-Geddon
We are quickly approaching the end of this years landmark election cycle - lovingly referred to as “Aldergeddon”. The reduction of St. Louis’ ward division from 28 to 14 has put every seat up for grabs this go around; and it’s got us local political hobbyists and activists alike on the edge of our seats.
Some wards are going uncontested a relief to many incumbent no doubt, many however have a number of strong campaigns fighting for each vote. The primary coming up Tues March, 7th will provide much anticipated feedback on the attitude of many voters on these races. With the new Board of Aldermen President: Dr. Megan E. Green running unopposed we should see more of the work she promised during her run in 2022. Other alderpersons running unopposed include: Ald. Shane Cohn (current 25th ward; new 3rd ward).
Many wards have intense races mounting pressure as we move closer to election day.
New 9th Ward: Which will encompass all of the Central West End, Forest park Southeast, and Kings Oak neighborhoods.
Ald. Mike Gras; current Alderman of the 28th ward
Ald. Tina “Sweet-T” Pihl; current Alderwoman of the 17th ward
Michael Browning; a newcomer to politics
New 13th Ward: Which will include parts of Hamilton Heights, Wellsgoodfellow, Mark Twain/ I70 Industrial, Walnut Park, North Pointe, Baden, and North Riverfront neighborhoods.
Ald. Norma Walker; current Alderwoman of the 22nd ward
Ald. Pam Boyd; current Alderwoman of the 27th ward
Ald. Lisa Middlebrook; current Alderwoman of the 2nd ward
With numerous highly competitive races to watch we’ve all been keeping busy with our ears to the ground. Other incumbents stand easier races such as Ald. Sharon Tyus (current 1st ward alderperson); running for the new 12th ward against 4 newcomers to the political scene in St. Louis.
I will be keeping my eye on a few races and candidates:
Anne Schweitzer - new 1st ward
Helen Petty - new 5th ward
Daniela Valazquez - new 6th ward
Alisha Sonnier - new 7th ward
Cara Spencer - new 8th ward
Michael Browning - new 9th ward
Tashara Earl - new 12th ward
Rasheen Aldridge - new 14th ward
